When you read the Old Testament, God made it very clear that we should not associate with people that do things that are abominations unto him (Deuteronomy 18:9-12). He didn’t want the Israelites to become defiled, knowing it was possible that those other nations could turn their hearts from our God (Deuteronomy 7:2-5), and cause us to go after other gods, and do things that are abominations to our God (Joshua 23:12-13). He even destroyed, and took land from nations because of abominations that they did (2 Chronicles 33:2,9, 1 Kings 14:24)God made this clear in the New Testament as well (2 Corinthians 6:14-18), to stay away from people that are not walking with him, and not be unequally yoked. The bible says can two walk together unless they agree?(Amos 3:3) Why hang with someone that’s a robber when you don’t rob? Likewise with an homosexual, gossiper, drunkard, liar, non believer, idolaters, fornicator, adulterer, and etc.? It is literally saying you agree with those evil spirits, And they come creeping into you (2 timothy 3:5-6). All you will do is learn, or conform to their ways over time. I can count countless relationships/friendships where I have began talking like them, acting like them, and literally learning evil. How can we get deeper into God, yet we have those old distractions still around us; traps and snares to lure us to sin against, and turn from our God?
In 2012 I remember riding with a girl, whom is an dancer to an after hour. She was looking at the moon & became scared. The moon was big and orange, she began talking about how God said he will turn the moon blood red before his return, and she needs to go back to God (I was not walking with God at all at this time). She then told me she was really into God at one point of time, but she shared an apartment with an dancer, and every night the girl would come home with bags of money, and that ultimately lured her back into the dancing. However she also stated that God had moved for her; when she stopped dancing she received an check from the government, and that kept her afloat, and she was able to pay her bills. However she still started back dancing. This is an perfect example of why we are NOT to associate ourselves around non-believers. It’s nothing but temptation, and a snare for us to fall. We have to keep ourselves un-spotted from the world (James 1:27), we must separate ourselves, and not be of it (1 John 2:15-17) God said he is going to make us a peculiar people (Deuteronomy 7:6), how can that be done if we are living like everything his son condemned in the flesh? (romans 8:3)
